Naked News Today: Anna is No Leader!

The UPA govt. besieged by the nuclear radiation of corruption scams from all sides may yet complete its full term in power so long as it has friendly supporters in the media like Vinita Dawra Nangia of timeslife. In her write-up 'Waiting for the Mahatma' (April 17) she makes fantastic statements to discredit Anna Hazare's Movement against corruption which has actually become a people's movement though celebrities might have also jumped on the bandwagon to sell their image. On the one hand she claims that 'we are a nation that sadly lacks leaders who will spearhead' the causes we must fight. In another breath , berating and condemning Anna Hazare's Movement as 'a very dangerous trend', she dangerously asks, 'Who is to say who represents civil society? No offence to Anna (what else it is?), but what if tomorrow another and another and yet another Anna fasts unto death for as many causes? Would we throw in the nation's support behind them all? So actually there is no dearth of Anna-like leaders in India, according to Nangia, but scarcity of leaders who will truly represent 'civil society' as perceived by her. Of course, congress leaders and politicians of A. Raja variety must be her ideal candidates to spearhead a revolution against corruption, as the adage goes, 'Set a thief to catch a thief.'
Making self-contradictory statements is the habit that media persons like Nangia have cultivated, perfected and fine-tuned to the extent of making them sound plausible. Nangia has not only discredited Anna Hazare as a leader and a true Gandhian, but also lampooned the whole crowd of supporters that spontaneously rose as one to be with him in his anti-corruption drive. . When Anna's supporters point to he govt. functionaries and enemies of civil society as ';they' Nangia bursts with righteous anger: "But who is 'they'? The first thing to understand is that there is no 'they'. It is 'us', We, the people of India fighting ourselves and the corruption inherent in us.We need to cleanse ourselves first before we set out to teach others a lesson." So guys, shut up shop, go back home, cleanse yourselves and the space around yourselves. The corruption will just wither away and there would be no need  for candle light vigils, silent marches, or fasts unto death. Bravo! What a simple solution! 'Bharat Ratna' should be awarded for such an excellent discovery that solves the problem of corruption in a jiffy!
